Near and far

online meditation

Perspective is a tricky; making small things appear big and large, distant forms seem small.
Some people are content with the view from where they stand while others yearn to stand on the horizon.

Thinking of the list of things you want to achieve, are they small changes that will improve your daily life or big ones that will change what daily life means?

Asking the five why’s

online meditation

Sometimes the obvious answer is not the true one
Often the real answers to inner questions require digging through layers
Ask yourself why you want this thing? Take the answer and ask why you want that? and again and again and again. Now you have the real answer.

Having it all

online meditation

Like this spider, some people just seem to better at choosing than the rest of us.
Wanting what they want looks like picking the package deal; the easy choice.
What things on your want list would still remain if all the influential people in your life lost interest?

In the flow

online meditation

Given the chance, water will take the most direct path to its destination.

Very often what we list as the things we want in life are actually paths to the emotions we want to feel.

A trip to foreign lands will inspire, a house represents independence or security.

When you think of each thing or experience you want, how does it make you feel?

Connecting the dots

online meditation flame trees maui

The true desires of your heart and soul stand out with joy when you are open to them.

The yearning is palpable, but so is the sense that all is unfolding as it should.

That is how you can easily tell the real soul-deep wants from the short-term, shallow ones.

What are those shining lights that stand out for you?

Don’t let history speak for you

online meditation

Over time waves have eroded the rock beneath leaving only a narrow, perilous bridge.

Memory can have the same affect; relaying desires from childhood or those placed on us by others.

If they aren’t valid wants today, then they will only continue to erode the true ones.

Do you know the difference between what you want and what you think you should want?

Coping with “good” stress

There’s a delightful irony in modern America – just how much we worry about our stress levels. I’m not usually too preoccupied with it except when it comes to losing sleep; I don’t function without sleep! I could actually feel the doors of opportunity beginning to open this week after a lot of work and now working with a consultant. Hard work with results always feels good.

But then come the sly thoughts about ‘now what?’ and thinking that I need to figure out how to negotiate the sale when the phantom offer in the future comes. What marketing do I need to go along with the new look? And so forth… It’s all good but it’s still stressful and my brain won’t turn off when I want it to. So a deep breath and lots of reminders that it’s all just one thing at a time, one foot in front of the other.

The best part is I now feel that my “brand” is solidifying. I know what I represent in the market place and how all those pieces fit together. That’s been holding me back for some time so having the confidence is a huge part of moving forward. I can’t wait to see where it all leads!

Seeing the forest

online meditation bamboo

Sometimes knowing what we want can seem as impenetrable as a field of bamboo.
Finding the characteristics each thing has in common with others will often bring more to light.
Perhaps the forest is your true desire and the trees, or bamboo stalks, merely examples.

Can you see the forest?

Connecting with others

It’s true when people say success is never a solitary endeavor. But I’d counter that with bad advice can set you back farther than no advice at all. I’ve taken that step backwards in the past which is why I’ve been cautious in seeking out others since then. I”m now at that point though where I need sage advice. So I’m going to be working with a consultant for a bit – to get things in order and decide what avenues I’m going to ignore for now.

For people that tend to do to much, knowing what to leave out and ignore is critical. I’m so looking forward to it – and have a little trepidation about all the new work ahead.

So far I’ve redesigned the photography site (again) and finally written an artist statement that’s not too bad and that’s just the pre-work. What I haven’t done is take too many pictures lately. I think that’s the hard balance to strike – making new art and marketing what you’ve made. It’s entirely too easy to just do one of them.

Where is your true comfort zone?

online meditation bouganvilla

The actual flower of the bougainvillea is small and demure; the flash is to attract attention.

We all seek connection with others in different ways.

But some of us fear being the center of attention; others fear disappearing altogether.

If you look past the fear, what kind of presence in the world do you seek?
