There are times when I think progress has to wait until I feel fully self-confident in every move I make. Uh-huh. It certainly explains why not too much progress has been made lately. But… I’m resolving to change that and push ahead with the course already charted. It’s not like nothing has happened. I know what I need to do that will require some social courage – networking and selling!

The last few weeks have been busy with foundation stuff- getting the day job going so that the bills get paid and my free time can turn to the real career. Establishing new patterns can take a lot out of you but it’s a necessary step. Not to mention adjusting life to having a puppy – who really isn’t much trouble but does seem to add extra time to every task at hand. Now with the holidays near, I know how important it will be to stay focused.

So this next week is going to be about getting the pieces moving, finishing up some photo editing and really sticking to my established posting schedule. We’ll see:-)

I spent all of Wednesday afternoon feverishly putting together an application package for a call for artists for a new cancer center. And I spent the morning waiting anxiously for the email with the instructions! Normally this wouldn’t put me in a panic but I’d only just found out about this opportunity and the deadline was two days away. As I wrapped up the last of the bits and pieces I realized that there is no way I could have gotten it in on time if I hadn’t sent my best work out before (to no avail.) All those rejections meant that I had images already vetted (this version is slightly better than this one) and edited in Photoshop so that all I had to do was some resizing and printing.

I don’t know that the response will be more positive in this case, but I’m sure I gave it my best shot and I know that all that time I put into prior submissions wasn’t wasted after all. It can sure feel that way when the ‘No, thanks’ arrives or even worse, there is no answer at all. I’m coming to believe that there is no such thing as wasting time if you are following where your heart leads. Cross your fingers for me that my future lies in health-care art!

I’m not usually one for superlatives but the series opening for this Star Trek spin-off series is my favorite of all time. I’ve been known to just watch this part before flipping to another channel. That it covers 400+ years of major human exploration and innovation in less than two minutes is both fun and inspiring – to see each voyage linked to the past and the future is to see the enduring ability to persist in the face of fear and uncertainty.
