Beginning

Real, lasting change comes from within.
Looking inward can be like standing at the edge of the jungle… without bug repellent.
But there is beauty in the tangled vines. And there is beauty in you.
Are you ready to explore?
The long (and tall) view

It is a simple fact that ancient evergreen trees are simply too tall to fit into a single photographic frame. Something that doesn’t prevent me or any other photographer from trying to capture their grandeur anyway. Creating a vertical panorama would certainly be an option but how many have tried it? Are there things in your life that seem to work this way? Is there another approach that with some foresight would accomplish your goal?

Balanced contrast

It’s hard to say whether the blue sea makes the ice and snow look whiter or if the white snow makes the sea look bluer. And does it really matter? It wouldn’t be half as beautiful without that level of contrast. Neutral colors are safe but unlikely to attract the people, activities, or progress into your life that you would like to see there. What can you shift from neutral to a saturated color, blinding white, or deepest black?

Sunset

There is something magical about a sunset and it’s more than just the beautiful colors. There’s so much power in the transition that even the most harried stop for a brief moment in awe. We can enjoy it because we all have confidence that the sun will be back in the morning – do you have that same confidence in yourself when contemplating a transition?

Changing labels

If I didn’t tell you this was a dandelion, you might not recognize it. Does the word ‘weed’ immediately jump to mind? Does the flower become less attractive when it becomes ordinary?
Are you giving negative labels to things in your life that maybe just need a change of context (like not being in the middle of the lawn?)
Horizons

When you stare at that horizon line, what do you see? Do you see simply a line cutting across the middle of the picture? Or do you envision the land that eventually lies beyond it? Both are constructs of the eye and the imagination. There is no literal line and the coast of Canada is thousands of miles beyond.
Are there equally clear lines in your life that might be more accurately represented by a gradual blur if such a thing were possible? Would that change anything significantly?

Stillness

Breathe deeply and imagine being in this green forest for a few minutes…
It takes years of being still to grow moss this luxurious. Try letting go of moving too quickly, sit quietly and see what comes to you.

Parallel universe

It’s hard to imagine ringing telephones and pinging emails looking at an underwater scene. If things are hectic, take a minute and imagine floating just below the surface of the warm Hawaiian waters. Technology hasn’t found its way there yet and it seems to be managing without it. Can you begin to divide the demands on your attention into what is necessary and what is simply possible?
Reflections

Sometimes it’s hard to see where the real object ends and the reflection begins. This can be true for people too.
Are you seeing people, including yourself, with fresh eyes every day? Or are you reflecting yourself or others’ perceptions onto them?

You have everything you need

Fern fronds contain the miniature bits of the mature leaf that unfurl rather than grow out like other plants. You too, have the core elements of you already in place and waiting – no transplants required. What aspects are further along than others?
